I
was able to get trail cam pictures of a big buck on the farm that I hunt
in Portage, Wisconsin. I decided that because I liked his unique antlers
that he would be the only Buck
that I'd settle for this year. I knew that I would have to get him during
the bow season because although I am the only hunter that bow hunts the property,
there are quite a few gun hunters that hunt the farm. I hunted hard for the
whole season, and although I shot several does, I never saw the big palmated
buck.
On the morning of 11-11-07
at about 7:30a.m. I finally saw the big buck, minus some tines that he lost
due to fighting. I did not care as I had
my heart set on this buck for the whole season. He was about 70 yards away
when I first
saw him and he was walking away from me. It only took one grunt from my
grunt call and he turned my way and started to bristle up as he was looking
for the
intruder in his woods. He came within 20 yards of my stand, and after a
double lung hit he ran only 60 yards and then fell. I was OVERWHELMED!!!!
It had been
a long season, but it was well worth it! Even with two broken tines the
buck still grosses 147 points. Definitely my best buck to date! I shot him
exactly
two months after I saw him on my trail cam. All in all a very successful
year!.
