Having retired in
2002, I have been able to pick the best days to go bow hunting. On the quiet
evening of 10-23-02 this buck came down the trail and stopped just 17 yards
away.
As he was licking up branches I pulled back
my Martin Warthog bow. When completely broadside to me I released my Easton
arrow, tipped with a Rocky Mountain point, and made a good double lung
shot. I held my bow steady as my tracker line went out what seemed like
a
mile. After a short period the tracker string stopped, I got out of my stand
and circled back to our cabin to wait.

I could see I had good placement of my shot but I still wanted to give
him some time to go down. After one hour I returned to my stand to
start tracking. My game tracker string made this easy, and after a short
distance the arrow passed through him and I had a double string to follow.
I found him just 80 yards away from my stand where he folded up in a row
of
our pine trees. He has a spread of 19" with 12 countable points
and tine lengths up to 12". He grossed over 148 inches and
netted
just over 130 inches. It has been commented that if he would not have
broken off the front tip of the right side he might have made it to 160
gross. I showed this buck to my neighbor and upon seeing it he thought
he might have gotten a picture of it earlier in the year with one of
his trial cameras. We compared the picture to my deer only to find out
we have another deer in our area even bigger than mine!
