Venison Ahead

This photo of Charles J. Turner of Rock Falls, IA was taken in 1954. Charles registered the first deer in Mason City that year. The following caption accompanied this photo: VENISON AHEAD—Charles J. (Slim) Turner of Rock Falls is shown with a 200-pound deer he shot Thursday on the opening day of deer season. He started hunting at 9 a.m. and made the kill shortly after noon about four miles west and a mile south of Northwood in Worth County. Turner bagged the deer with a 16 gauge shotgun at about 100 yards while shooting from a tree. He also shot a timber wolf in the same area. His clean-up job will include getting the blood off his car.
